I’ve learned I’m worthy of any and all the things. I have changed my outlook on myself, those around me and situations. Alyssa never pushes me and helps me believe in myself that I can accomplish things. She has given me courage to face things I never thought I could or wanted to. I am beginning to believe again. Thank you with all of my heart.

About Our Retreat Leaders

alyssa pfennig, certified yoga therapist (c-iayt)

Alyssa is passionate about sharing the therapeutic wisdom of yoga, nature and horses to help women nourish their path to connection with themselves and their own wild, feminine wisdom. She has practiced yoga for over 15 years and was inspired to become a teacher after sharing the practice with her young niece.

Drawn to the therapeutic use of yoga practices that helped her with an injured shoulder and manage work stress, she spent three years immersed in the study of therapeutic yoga through the Yoga on High Teacher Training Institute in Columbus, Ohio. She has trained in using yoga practices such as asana, pranayama and meditation, to help with structural, mental and emotional issues and will help you make every pose accessible and comfortable in a group class or design a personal yoga program specific to your needs.

For three years, Alyssa assisted in research studies on using yoga to manage chronic pain and PTSD with veterans in conjunction with the VA Medical Center and has also worked one-on-one with patients in a specialized clinic at Eskenazi Health. She works with women on a daily basis to get to the root of their chronic pain and reconnect to their wild hearts.

She is an E-RYT 200/RYT 500 with the Yoga Alliance and a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). She is also certified in enzyme nutrition with the Food Enzyme Institute and certified in Thai Yoga Massage.

rita avellar, integrative health coach

Rita is a certified Health Coach by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and in love about healthy cooking, wellness, writing and sharing information about healthy living.

Her personal struggle with a sick childhood in Brazil, her native country, with pneumonia, allergies and a low immune system motivated her to research and implement a variety of holistic approaches into her lifestyle. Her research began as young as 12 years old, learning to heal her body using natural and alternative medicine, herbs, vitamins and food.

A combined interest in human behavior and communication led her to work for more than 15 years in marketing for the fashion industry and later in life she decided to follow her first passion, study to become a health coach and share what she has learned with others so that they can find relief in their lives as well.

Wherever there is an absence of power, spirit, or joy in a woman’s life, she has lost touch with her wild self.

Casa Tara Wellness Resort

a secluded paradise in baja mexico

Tara, a female meditational deity for Buddhists, is considered to be the Bodhisattva (or mother) of Universal Love and Compassion. Buddhists believe that once she achieved her enlightenment on Earth, instead of transcending, she chose to stay in the world to help mankind raise their consciousness and free their souls.

Tara means “the one who enables living beings to cross the oceans of existence and suffering”. It is her compassion for living beings and her desire to save them from suffering, that makes her protective of them like a mother is of her children.

We at our luxury hotel in Baja California work hard every day to build a platform where teachers and masters from all over the world can come and share their wisdom, guiding you towards enhancing your mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Casa Tara, like a mother, is motivated by the profound desire to provide a caring, stress-free environment for all our guests… A sort of safe haven created for you to let go and just be yourself.

You deserve relaxation. You deserve a retreat. You deserve to stay with Casa Tara Retreat.

Tears have a purpose. They are what we carry of the ocean. And perhaps we must become the sea, give ourselves to it, if we are to be transformed.
